Ameritron AL-811 600W HF Linear Amplifier (Be SURE to READ the DESCRIPTION.)
Ameritron AL-811 HF Linear Amplifier with a trio of good quality USA made (reinforced/ribbed plate) 811A Tubes. Included with the Unit is a spiral-bound Print of the Ameritron AL-811 Operating Manual. Also pictured and included is a BUD-Box version of the Ameritron ARB-704. The BUD-Box contains a Transistorized PTT Circuit (and a pair of RCA Plug interconnecting Cables) to allow modern Transceivers to key the AL-811 PTT "Relay" RCA Jack. The Circuit of the BUD-Box is similar to the Yaesu FRB-757 which'borrows' +12Vdc [at 100mAdc when keyed] from a Yaesu-type Transceiver ex. FT-757GX series "+13.8V" Jack thereby allowing the same Transceiver's "PTT" Output - sinking only 2.5mAdc.
To key a mechanical Relay in the BUD-Box which then keys 100mAdc at the Ameritron. +12Vdc can also be supplied directly to the center RCA Jack if your rig doesn't supply it.
Previously, the AL-811 was Circuit Modified / improved: + LEDs (2 backlighting each meter) internally illuminate the pair of front Panel Meters + Plate Tank Coil (originally thermoplastic) was replaced with a heavy-duty (military grade) Ceramic Tank Coil + Circuit protections added include: ---A pair of Gas Discharge Devices (to protect Driver/Exciter in event of any 811A failures) ---A pair of 200-Ohm hi-Wattage / Heat-Sunk Resistors capacitively coupled to input (for stability) ---A metal film hi-Wattage DC bias Resistor Network (to cut-off Ip during standby). Since then, it's been thoroughly repaired including internal Chassis disassembly, straightening, TIG welding of the cast-aluminum Fan, and the addition of specially-milled, drilled and thread-tapped steel Reinforcements.
Repairs include re-winding / re-mounting the HV DC Plate Choke (and sweep-checking it for undesired resonances via spectrum analysis over the operational HF range). Also, it has also been re-Tubed. Repairs completed, it has been performance-tested both in the lab and on the air.
It's looks are perfectly acceptable for a used Amplifier. All the Knobs and Controls are smooth-operating and it works great! Proving its worth, the AL-811 was used for several continuous hours-long segments on 80 through 15 Meters during the recent ARRL International DX Contest where it provided QSOs with Bulgaria, the Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, England, Finland, Hungary, Japan, Madeira Island, New Zealand, Slovenia, the Slovak Republic and Turkey. This AL-811 Amplifier is outfitted with a new 68 Power Cord and jumpers are set for 240Vac operation (internally connected behind the easy-change 4-Screw Access Plate on the rear) as can be seen on the close-up photo of the new Pass & Seymour 240V. If one desires, it is very easy to switch from 240Vac back to 120Vac by removing the 4-Screw Access Plate, changing the jumpers, exchanging the Power Plug on the end of the Power Cord, and replacing the 8Amp.
