Ameritron AL-811H Linear Amplifier for Ham Radio

This amplifier, the Ameritron AL-811H, was used along with a Kenwood TS-440S and a HyTower vertical antenna. The amplifier was put on the bench to test it for operational status on the bands (160m - 15m). Using the TS-440S to drive it, the amplifier was found to be working satisfactorily as far as my lab equipment here at Sacramento Radio Expo could test it. As I have no power meter that will read more than 300 Watts, I reduced the excitation power from the TS-440S to keep from damaging my Bird Wattmeter. In CW mode, the linear amplifier was putting out 300 Watts with only 25 - 30 watts from the exciter. As I attempted to apply more than 30 watts from the exciter the linear amplifier continued to put out more than 300W and buried the needle of the Bird Wattmeter.

The linear was then applied directly to the dummy load without the Bird wattmeter in-line and the TS-440S was increased to 65 Watts in CW to the linear amplifier momentarily. Using the plate meter and High Voltage meter readings on the linear amplifier, the amplifier was inputting roughly 1000 Watts to the 4 811 final tubes. This should correspond to about 600 watts output in CW mode. This unit will come with the Heil relay foot switch, two sections of RG-8 coax with PL-259 connectors and the amplifier itself.
