ARD HAM RADIO AMPLIFIER with three Eimac 3CX800A7 tubes
FOR SALE is a package of components for the Advanced Radio devices 230-M amplifier which uses THREE Eimac 3CX800A7 triodes amp tubes (new - not in original boxes) The ARD 230M amps which are on four discrete frequencies (which can be changed by the owner) from 2-15 MHZ. Originally used by the Dept. Of Energy to communicate with those special trailers that occasionally roamed the interstates. The amps are complete with everything but a tunable final tank circuit. They could easily be modified to make nice 1500 W amps with.
The addition of a few components in the plate and grid circuits. The photographs show the plate circuit and the room to install the vacuum variables etc. The original ARD amplifiers (the ham commercial models) were autotune.
I'm not sure if these could be modified to be autotune but they are definitely capable of covering 2-30 MHz just like the originals with the proper tank circuit modifications. These amplifiers are NEW in that they have never been on the air; the power plugs are wrapped with plastic and they have been stored for use by the DOE by one of the national laboratories as spares. The communication system they were used in has been replaced by cell and frequency hop radios and these amps and the truck-mounted components were surplused in one lot. The original purpose was to chose one of the four internal frequencies which would autotune internally to communicate with one or more of the trucks.
The amps have a discrete control head that can be mounted away from the amplifier and each of them is mounted in a blue panel rack (as shown in the photos). Dahl transformer produces 2200 vdc at 1.1 amps for any of these ARD amps.
